No Cow

One wonders when the unity of two divides.
The insides of an insight aren’t pretty.
This city knows no bounds.
This half human, ranting at the moon,
Evokes a taste of lye and lemon,
Burning in one’s mouth.

Sounds move out, a sigh or shout
In wordless rage, this prison skin
Keeps out, and in.

You know what I’m talking about!

Pricks bleed, and assholes too.
This shoe fits too well.
This hell we’re in knows only sin,
No truth resides within.
God’s worst punishment:
Separation.

We’re two, alike.
We’re too alike.
Deny, deny, deny!
Until the sky turns black and blue
But only you know what’s true.
You do.

This broken thought resounds again,
And wreacks old havoc,
Telling us we’re far apart.
We should have learned all this by now:
Without the bull there is no cow!

Did I say that? Am I mad?
Now they’ll come, I know they will,
To cart me off, to change my brain
Until the lie, the three or four,
Seems just as true.

Did it happen to you?

I will need time to digest and understand this poem. In the interim did you really mean “And wrecks old havoc” or “wreaks old havoc” ? Love, Dad.

Hmm… Yes, you found a spelling error. *sigh* I was thinking about a number of interrelated things as I wrote this. Mostly, I was thinking about the paradigms that keep us, in our minds and hearts, seeing others as “The Other.” Some of it is word play, sounds like “Lye” and “lie”, both caustic. –

“Prison Skin” was a phrase that just popped into my head. It relates to an idea that our ability to apprehend the world ends where our bodies end. That anything outside ourselves, physically, is separate. I do not believe this to be true, and believe, also, that this idea is at the root of many of humanities worst problems. –

“Pricks bleed” is a nod to the Bard, his “if you prick me, do I not bleed?” It also relates to the idea of masculinity, and how Men are seen as the last group worthy of collective derision. This also creates a separation, like God’s punishment of the Angel Lucifer, cast out of heaven, separated from God’s presence. –

“The three or four” is a reference to 1984, the bit where our hapless hero is being reprogrammed to see the ‘correct’ number of fingers. Belief can override truth, and often does. –

    Well, that’s about it… –
