Another aural adventure

Published by under Art,Sound

I was sharing some thoughts about the project I’ve been working on with my dad. He’d asked me if I intended for there to be a visual componant with the sounds.

Here’s what I wrote:

Kenetic Sculpture

Published by under Art,Kenetic

In one way or another, I’ve participated in the first 3 SoundWalk events in the East Village Arts District of Long Beach, CA. This annual one-night event features art that uses sound, including site-specific installations, interactive pieces, conceptual works, sculpture, and performance. Having been invited to participate in the 1st SoundWalk event, I began working with a fabricator (metal artist Tom Walker), and created my first ever sound-driven kenetic sculpture, titled Transduction. Subsequently, it was included in the jurored Motion+Sound show at the 2nd City Council Art Gallery + Performance Space, and featured at The Photon Ballet, a special event produced by the Los Angeles chapter of SIGGRAPH. Phtographs of that installation can be found here and here.

Having been invited back for the 2nd annual SoundWalk, I worked with another fabricator (metal artist Dwight Bennett) to produce Metal Flux. [note: this link is to a rather large video]

Last year, my contribution to the SoundWalk event was sitting in on part of a 5 hour drone performance by the Hop-Frog Kollectiv.

Excerpt from Sound Project

Published by under Art,audio tracks,Sound

For quite some time now I’ve been collecting audio from various environments and, just recently, I’ve begun to edit and assemble them into what will eventually be a very large piece (60-80 minutes). I’ve posted a 10 minute segment that includes audio from 4 different recordings. I don’t know if you have a set of headphones that you can connect to your computer but, if so, I think you’ll enjoy the experience a bit more:

The Sandblaster!

It has been several years in the making but I’m pleased to announce that for all intents and purposes the guitar project is complete. Lots of people asked if I had a name for it and, after pondering for a while, came up with The Sandblaster! This was one of my nick names when I was a kid, and seemed to sound like a guitar (a la Telecaster). I hope to take better pix at some point, but this was the best I could muster right now:

Come To Me

Come To Me (Lyrics to

      a song
)
by Sander Roscoe Wolff

The pain inside has died at last
All hope has perished too
And every dream has turned to ash
There’s nothing left to do

I’ve walked alone through worse, I know,
And faced my every fear
Yet somehow as the end draws close
I wish that you were here

I don’t want your comfort, lord,
Forgiveness will not come
I want for you to know me once
Before I’m really gone

Your devils waiting patiently
Their flames are drawing near
And as their talons tear my flesh
I wish that you were here

I wish you stood inside these shoes
And bore this misery
But I refuse to call your name
And you won’t come to me

You made me in your image, lord
Yet you will shed no tear
This mother’s son has earned no love
I wish that you were here

Titano Dandy

We all have moments of weakness, when we do things we know we shouldn’t. We make choices based on motivations we really don’t understand and, sometimes, the consequences of those choices can be unpredictible. Such was the case a few months back when I went to an auction to sell some stuff. Here are some photos of what I left with:

More Beautiful Flowers

Published by under Art,Photography

We visited the South Coast Botanical Gardens again, one of our favorite places to walk, enjoy the sights, scents, and sounds. I can’t help but bring my camera and take snaps of the amazing floral displays that seem to burst from every twist and turn. Here are some examples.
